I  strongly recommend Chi Nei Tsang/Applied Chi Kung sessions in conjunction with colonics not only to aid the detoxification process, but because health does not, as many health practitioners say, "begin in the colon." True health begins when all parts of the Self are willing to be engaged in life as it is actually presenting itself.

Appropriate energy expenditure, nourishment, and rest according to the qi of the season demonstrates that we acknowledge we are not part of nature, we are nature. To disregard this is to deny our essence, creating issues for ourselves weeks, months, or years down the road. (For example, too much activity at the beginning of Spring opens us to Summer heat, which then manifests as Fall and Winter flu.)

Note also that health is not super-immunity or never getting sick. True health allows the environment in and out easily and quickly. Illness can manifest for a couple
of hours or even a day and go right back out - no problem. Taking suppressants (even "natural" ones) for this type of illness can cause it to hide, only to manifest later in a possibly more complicated manner. Illness that is chronic or doesn't leave the body that quickly should be looked at more closely.

We are digesting beings from the moment the sperm pierces the egg, digesting nutrients from food, emotional experiences, the environment... basically everything that makes up our personal world.  If this digestion is inhibited, symptoms of dis-ease will arise manifesting as anything from chronic dissatisfaction, eating disorders, habitual behavior, and other "emotional" issues to chronic pain, allergies, fibroids, cancers, and other such "physical" issues.

Chi Nei Tsang allows us to contact the hidden places in which the seeds of imbalance have taken hold. These seeds may have been planted by our ancestors (past lives, genetics) or by us (improper self-care), but they are nourished by the way we live our life in every moment. Chi Nei Tsang facilitates proper digestion of our entire experience, from pre-birth through present, allowing us to experience more openness, freshness and possibility. What is Colon Hydrotherapy?

Colon Hydrotherapy, also known as colonics, a colonic, colon therapy, or a high enema, is the gentle flushing of the colon with purified water in order to remove impacted waste, stimulate peristaltic action, detoxify the body and tonify the colon. If you are new to colonics or haven't received one in a long time, it is advisable to plan on a series of at least 2 colonics scheduled within 1-2 weeks of each other (no more than a week apart is best). A colonic session lasts 30-50 minutes, depending on the client, and there is really no "typical" session. Every body is unique.

During your colon hydrotherapy session, you'll  have the opportunity to discuss your lifestyle, nutrition, and any other factors influencing your health. Again, every body is unique. There is no one way to eat, no one right way to live, no one way to anything that is right for every one. You are also unique from day to day, season to season, year to year. What was right for you a couple of years ago may be your poison today...

Please pay attention to your body - for example, for many people, colonics in the winter are too invasive. Winter is a time for rest and repair so that we have the energy reserves with which to enjoy the light of late summer evenings without draining ourselves.  For people who are already overtaxed, colon hydrotherapy in the dark and cold of winter may be too invasive or draining (no pun intended. sorry.).

What physically happens during a colonic session?

Before starting the procedure you are given a gown and asked to remove your clothing from the waist down. You then lie down on a comfortable massage table, and the therapist explains everything that will happen during the procedure so that you know what to expect.

A lubricated, disposable speculum is gently inserted into therectum. This speculum is attached to two tubes which are attached to the colonic machine. The smaller tube delivers the filtered water to the speculum and your colon, while the larger tube carries the waste to the colon therapy machine. All waste is discretely moved from your body without offensive odor or embarrassment. During your colonic sessions, your therapist will always make sure your modesty and comfort are maintained.

During a colonic session, your colon will be filled with triple filtered water and allowed to release the water several times. Although the therapist controls the machine, you have control over how much water you wish to enter your colon and when you would like the water to be released. The machine has a viewing tube with special lighting which allows you to see what is coming out of your body.

During a fill, only the volume of water that feels comfortable for you is introduced. Once you feel full, you tell the therapist and the water is then released. Your colon empties out into the drainage tube, carrying with it fecal and toxic matter that has been dislodged. This filling and emptying continues, along with abdominal massaging, for the entire session.

This repetitive filling with water not only flushes wastes out the colon, but it also stimulates the colon to contract. This contracting of the colon is called peristalsis. This is the same muscular action that the stool stimulates as it moves through the colon. In this way, a colonic is gentle and yet extremely effective because as you clean the colon, you are strengthening the colon muscles. This is why colonics are not addictive but are strengthening to your colon. Laxatives use chemicals to stimulate bowel movements. These chemicals actually act by irritating the colon and are addictive, encouraging the colon only to work when the laxative is ingested. Using water to cleanse your colon, especially in combination with chi nei tsang/applied chi kung, can be an excellent way to bring about optimal bowel function.

Once you and your therapist feel you are done, you sit on the toilet for 5-15 minutes to evacuate any residual waste or water that may not have released while on the table.
